Scientists Confirm What We’ve Known All Along About Cheese
August 17, 2016
Scientists have confirmed that cheese can be as addictive as drugs, calling it “dairy crack.”
brightestyoungthings Though let’s be honest, we really didn’t need science to tell us that.
tumblr Apparently, cheese contains a slow-release protein called casein. When your body digests cheese, this protein breaks down and releases casomorphins — chemicals which give an opioid effect to your system.
imgur “Casomorphins really play with the dopamine receptors and trigger that addictive element,” dietitian Cameron Wells shared.
tumblr So every time you eat cheese, your body feels the same drug-like sensation and before you know it you’re gorging on fondue spoon-first.
thrillist While there’s nothing inherently bad about cheese, having too much of it could lead to obesity, especially if you’re consuming intensely processed kinds (we’re looking at you, Velveeta!)
imgur Every addict knows that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, so don’t worry about any judgment — we’re all a little crazy for cheese.
